You need to be thinking about laser eye surgery risk if you’re contemplating laser procedure. While it’s considered one of the safest surgical procedures available too many people ignore the risks associated with it and this is something you need to be clear about.

It’s one of the most important discussion points when you have preliminary discussions with your surgeon. This is the time you need to be asking questions about the complications that could arise. While risk is minimal it exists nevertheless and that’s normal with any surgical procedure.

Pre-screening is performed to ascertain your risk levels and whether you are a candidate for laser eye surgery. Many people get advice from people they know who have undergone successful laser eye treatment however, you need to be aware that just because it was successful for someone else, it won’t guarantee you will undergo a risk-free treatment.

You may have certain issues which others don’t have and that’s one of the reasons the pre-screening phase is so important. In this article, we’ll look at four of the risks of laser eye surgery you need to know about.

Laser Eye Complications

- There is a chance that some vision may be lost. This could be a loss of lines of vision which cannot be corrected by using eye wear or surgery.

- Some patients run the risk of suffering from vision issues which include double vision. Others include halos or glare and the result of this will mostly affect a person’s night time vision. For example driving at night with these symptoms will make getting behind the wheel of a car somewhat risky.

- There are issues known as being under or over treated. How does this affect the patient? Simply, a certain number of patients will achieve full 20/20 vision without the need to use eye wear. Some patients may require further treatment or quite simple, despite treatment, eye wear will still need to be worn.

- Dry eye syndrome is another risk factor and is basically a lack of moisture in the eye. In other words, your eye may not be able to produce the desired amount of tears to keep the eye moist enough thus making it an uncomfortable experience for the patient.Blurring is an issue of dry eye and this situation could even become a permanent one.

These are just some of the risks of laser eye and this is one of the reasons pre-screening is very important. You need to be truthful with your surgeon during this time and avoid the temptation to hide any health issues you may have.

Though rare, there are still LASIK surgery patients that complain about post surgical problems. However, if you have an experienced surgeon by your side, the rate of surgical complications is greatly reduced. Common sense aside, one should base their decisions on the actual facts reported by their treatment provider. Overall, the number of complications are generally reported to be less than 1%. Most of the reported problems are handled through laser re-treatments or enhancements.

Let’s try to see what happens during a LASIK procedure first before we can start understanding the complications. During LASIK surgery a laser beam is used to cut a very thin, hinged flap into the front of the eye. The flap is then lifted and the laser is applied to re-shape the eye, and then the flap is replaced to heal.

Some of the more common types of LASIK complications are improperly formed LASIK flaps: Sometimes after the first surgery, a patient might experience an improperly formed flap. This might create an irregular surface and cause various vision defects. In such cases, LASIK surgery needs to be repeated one or more times to make the eye surface smooth. That’s why you really need to speak to LASIK doctors about these sort of issues to understand the risks involved here.

Inflamation - The area where the flap touches the eye can sometimes swell post LASIK surdery. Such a condition, is called diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK). The symptoms include light sensitivity and vision loss .

Epithelial In growth - If there is any kind of initial swelling in the eye it might create a common LASIK complication called Epithelial in growth. This condition can be best described as a type of scarring which leads to an irregular eye surface and other vision distortions. In such a condition the surgeon lifts the flap and scrapes out the epithelial growth from inside. This is certainly not a full proof method. It has been noticed that in many cases the epithelial in growth reoccurs.

Some other common types of Lasik Eye Surgery complications include dry eye, infections, and night vision problems such as glaring around the lights.

Seasoned LASIK surgeons know that with improvements in technology, the complications can be greatly reduced. People who have had a history of eye complications or infections are not advised to go for these surgeries.

When assessing laser eye surgery cost one of the biggest considerations to make is the benefits. Many concentrate on the risks when doing their due diligence however, while there is always risk involved with any type of surgery, with Laser eye surgery, that risk is minimal.

Therefore, weighing up the benefits against the risks is usually a good way to analyze it. Now once you have done this then the road to the surgeon’s table begins and you also need to know, just because you have decided it’s what you want, you still need to satisfy your surgeon that you are eligible, especially from a health perspective to receive laser eye surgery.

So how much does it cost? If you are looking at advertisements which suggest just a few hundred dollars per eye then just beware. This may well be the case but sometimes getting it for the price advertised is another thing.

You also need to take into account the reputation of the center and it’s surgeons. Do not overlook this fact because it’s almost the most important step in the whole process. Realistically, the cost of laser eye surgery could set you back anywhere between $1600-$2200 per eye and these figures are only a rough estimate.

A lot depends on what type of procedure you need, your condition and the recovery phase. It’s something you really need to speak to ypour surgeon about.

Saving On Your Laser Eye Surgery

Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can afford the cost of your surgery:

1. Check to see if your health insurance can come into play. Some companies do not declare the coverage for such type of surgeries but there is a good chance that they can bill it as an obligatory operation rather than an optional one. So work with your health care providers to find some possible ways to reduce the laser eye surgery cost.

2. Secondly, it is a good idea to save on your salary every month. You can keep a hundred dollars or more for the needed surgery. About five percent of your income can greatly suffice the needed amount for your surgery. Although it cannot fully compensate to the required amount, savings from your monthly income can help a lot in coming up with the money that you need.

3. Thirdly, ask about the possibility of installments. You can issue a large amount as a down payment and set up a contract which will allow you to pay in small monthly terms. This way, you can pay the money with fewer burdens on your part. You can also decide to charge it to your credit card. Although this may not serve as your best option, it can work out just fine if your bank has lower interest rates.

4. Lastly, save up for your laser eye cost through a financing company. You can search for one over the internet and see the benefits and terms. They will give you a budgeted plan which can definitely make you pay at lower rates. Alternatively, talk to your center about this option.

Today I want to tell you about my personal experience with LASIK procedure and how LASIK in fact changed my life.

The doctor and I talked about the surgery; he was persuading at the same time realistic. He stated that one of my eyes would be a good candidate for total vision correction, but the other eye would likely see only some (though possibly major) improvement. He stated that about one of his Lasik procedures per month are with clients with the same level of poor vision of my worst eye. So that made me feel good!

I would also like to encourage those people with some problems to go ahead and visit their local Lasik center (in my case I went to the Denver Lasik Eye Surgery clinic and I can’t complain!) to talk to the professionals there. As I mentioned earlier, I have had some occasional problems with dry eyes. I also have pupils that dilate easily. Both of these can be reasons to be dissuaded from Lasik, but in neither case were my problems significant enough for the doctor to consider me not a good Lasik client. Do go and discuss your individual case.

I cannot say that the information I was given made me totally relaxed about the whole procedure. Before I had the procedure done, I tried to reason with myself not to get it. I followed all what the Lasik doctors told me to do after the procedure, and I am so happy with the results! I could see much better even directly after the operation was over, and things have continued to improve. I personally do not have any of the problems that are often mentioned as effects, such as halos around lights, etc. I would strongly encourage anyone to be brave enough to go down to your Lasik center and at least talk about the Lasik procedure with a knowledgeable professional.

The term LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileuses. LASIK eye surgery is a medical procedure performed on a patient who has eye problems. These eye problems can be any of the following: being farsighted or nearsighted, and astigmatism. Furthermore, LASIK eye surgery is performed so that a person with any of the aforementioned eye problems would not have to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Nowadays, LASIK eye surgery is one of the most common medical procedures that an eye doctor performs on a patient.

Obviously there are still a lot of people with concerns regarding Lasik and these is based on the larged amount of LASIK doctors available now a day. LASIK surgery is a procedure that reshaped the cornea permanently. This is because a part of the cornea will be removed permanently to reshape it. Afterwards, with the use of laser or an instrument called the ‘microkeratome’, there is a part of the eye which will be vaporized to correct the eye problem.

LASIK eye surgery has become quite popular in the medical circle because of its painless-free operation. One more advantage that it has over other medical procedures to correct an imperfect vision is that the results are instantaneous. Right after the operation, you just need to let a day or two pass and you will see a definite improvement with your vision. However, there are some disadvantages to this type of medical procedure. First, the rates can be quite steep so you better check with your eye doctor or ophthalmologist if you plan to undergo such a surgery.

Second, just like any other medical operation, there are complications that the patient may suffer in the aftermath of the operation. Third, some job types will not allow an employee to undergo any form of eye surgery. If you decide to go for LASIK eye surgery, you need to do your part and research so that you will know everything about the procedure. Also, have a thorough talk with your doctor so that you would know what to do before the operation. Finally, you can ask about the results and improvements with your vision problem right after your LASIK eye surgery.

Lasers can be used to perform cosmetic eye laser surgery on both the upper and lower eyelids. It is all too common as we age to pick up those unwonted bags of skin around the eyes as well as in some cases those dreaded areas of accumulated skin.

The collection of bags of fat around the eyes is also all too common. To make matters worse for some of us, many of these unwonted skin problems can occur not as a result of ageing, but as a result of diseases such as facial nerve palsy and disthyroid eye disease which of cause means that operations just like Blepharoplasty Cosmetic surgical interventions at timers can be something worth while for even some youthful folks.

Some information on Blepharoplasty, one of the most common laser eye surgeries

This is one form of cosmetic eye laser surgery that can be done to enhance the facial features and reverse any age related changes to the eye. During this procedure all unwonted skin is removed with the help of a laser. With this technique even fatty deposits located under the eye can be removed. A series of smallish Sutures are used to help the incisions around the eye heal themselves after the operation, normally within 4 to 5 days these will be removed.

The many benefits of using lasers

Using lasers for cosmetic eye laser surgery provides several additional benefits. For starters blood vessels can be very quickly sealed, this makes a huge difference since the surgeon can see the organ he is working on far better throughout the procedure. This obviously allows the surgeon to work with much higher precision. Cosmetic eye laser surgery also has less postoperative swelling compared to conventional forms of eye surgery. What to expect once the procedure is over

As with a lot of eye surgeries, some after-effects can arise such as light sensitivity and blurred vision.

In most cases doctors prescribe some kind of eye drops or other medications to deal with these symptoms. It shouldn’t be long before these side-effects cease and you can enjoy perfect vision once more.

As parents we naturally want to protect our children from harm. Young children can be very inquisitive and unpredictable and at times the risk of accidental injury is high. Thankfully most childhood spills and knocks result in little more than injured pride and a few tears but sometimes more serious injuries occur. Eye injuries unfortunately are among the more common types of injury seen in young children.

Every year, thousands of young children have accidents that cause eye care safety injury. About half of these happen at home or during sporting activities. Many of these injuries cause sight damage or even blindness. Over 90% of eye injuries seen at hospital emergencies result from carelessness and lack of eye care safety, and most are so easily avoidable.

No matter how careful you are as a parent, you can’t supervise a child every split second and you can’t keep them wrapped in cotton wool. Reducing risks to a child’s eye safety is all about recognizing and avoiding potential eye hazards.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology over 40% percent of childhood childrens eye care injuries occur during sports or recreational activities. Among the more common findings:

- Baseball is the number one cause of sports-related injuries for 5 to 14 year olds.

- Basketball is the most common cause of eye injuries for 15 to 24 year olds. Most injuries come from contact with fingers and elbows.

At home the most common causes of eye injuries to children include:

- Accidents with sharp toys and objects such as forks, knives and pencils. Even a rubber band or a paperclip can be dangerous at times.

- Injury from harmful household chemicals and cleaners. Alkaline based cleaners such as dishwasher detergents can be particularly nasty to eyes.

- Falls from stairs and furniture or when playing with toys.

- Yard accidents such as stones and debris thrown up by lawnmowing or hammering.

There are many simple steps you can take as a parent to prevent most eye injuries:

Make sure your child wears proper eye protection when playing sport. It’s especially important if your child already has poor vision in one or both eyes. Eye protectors with polycarbonate safety lenses should be worn for active sports such as baseball, basketball and hockey among many.

At home or in the yard it’s vital to keep cleaners and other harmful chemicals stored securely out of your child’s reach. Keep children out of areas where lawnmowers or other powered equipment is being used. High speed debris thrown up and hitting an eye can cause major damage. Make sure there are no sharp edges on benches or around play areas and keep all sharp or pointed objects and toys out of young hands.

if you suspect an eye injury to a child seek medical help urgently. A penetrating injury or a direct hit to the eyeball can severely damage the inside of an eye even when there is no evidence of external injury.

As well as being watchful, it’s just as important to set your child a good example. Using protective eyewear yourself when working with tools and power equipment is an excellent way to teach children the value of eye safety. Help keep your child safe and make sure they can see long into the future!

If you are considering lasik then one of the most important steps is finding a suitable center and surgeon. Many seem to pay scant regard to this step but unless you do some diligent intel it could prove a costly experience for you.

Lasik eye surgery centers are increasing in numbers and that means the competition between them is pretty intense. Does this mean your costs will be reduced? Well, while cost id an important consideration of lasik to select a surgeon or center simply because they are much cheaper than another is not really recommended.

More important are the reputations of lasik centers and their surgeons and even if you are on a tight budget, before considering price, make sure the first two points are looked at. Lasik is an extremely safe procedure and the risk is minimal but it’s there nevertheless. Don’t increase it by being reckless in your choice of laser eye centers.

Pre-screening For Lasik

Did you know that you don’t automatically qualify for lasik? It’s a fact and one of the most encouraging aspects of a reputable lasik eye surgery center is the stringent pre-qualification they conduct.

Those who have constantly changing vision correction requirements for example, may not be candidates for the procedure. Having this explained at lasik eye surgery centers may be disappointing, but they will not want to take the person’s money and perform a procedure that will not result in success.

Once you have a shortlist of centers then you need to conduct furhter intel. The decision you make will affect their vision in the future and although very few operations go wrong, having an experienced surgeon as well as an understanding staff should be important to everyone considering the operation.

Laser Eye Surgery Equipment

The type of laser equipment being used may be important to some, but more importantly is the experience of the surgeon in using that equipment. Following the operation patients will probably have limited contact with the surgeon and the staff at the lasik eye surgery centers will become an important part of their visual future.

Having staff that is willing to take your calls and answer any questions during the recovery period will be a major consideration. All of the laser eye surgery centers should be available to answer questions as well as respond to any emergencies that may arise after the surgery.

If possible, talking to others who have undergone the surgery at different lasik eye surgery centers will help you make a more informed decision. In other words, don’t make a hasty decision in selecting the most suitable lasik eye surgery center for you.

Laser Eye Surgery is a subject that is being heard discussed more and more frequently and which is gaining a great deal of attention in the media these days. While this high-tech corrective eye surgery is becoming better known, there is still a gap for many people in understanding exactly what it is and the various types of vision conditions it can correct. Below is some general information on the topic that can provide the basic essentials to understanding this modern, medical marvel.

The most common type of Eye Surgery is called Lasik eye surgery and it does have some aspects that set it apart from other types of surgery to correct vision problems. The main distinction is that the Lasik procedure does not require the doctor to actually cut the cornea surface. This means that there are generally few complications with this kind of eye surgery and the risks to the patient and their vision is also very low.

Lasik is actually an abbreviation of the phrase “Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis.” This is a procedure that uses a beam of light from a laser, which allows the laser eye surgeon to make corrective adjustments to the eye while leaving the eye’s surface unharmed and intact. This approach to laser eye surgery offers a great advantage over the more traditional eye surgery methods, which could often damage the surface of the lens by the use of surgical instruments.

Laser Eye Surgery has become one of the most widely used and popular methods to correct vision problems. This corrective eye surgery is best suited for those who are near-sighted, who are far-sighted, and for those who have an astigmatism, which are all vision conditions that affect a significant portion of the aging, baby boomer population.

Lasik eye surgery is able to reshape the cornea of the eye, which is the outer layer, or covering. When this is done properly by the Lasik eye doctor, the light which passes through the cornea is better focused onto the retina at the back of the eye, which is essentially where the vision “signals” are interpreted.

In addition to being overwhelmingly effective, another advantage of this remarkable procedure is that the patient who undergoes the treatment experiences very little discomfort. Also, after the Lasik corrective eye surgery, the vision is noticeably improved almost instantly and there is no need to have the eyes bandaged, nor is there any need for stitches.

All of these factors combine to offer the Lasik patient a very fast recovery time, while also keeping the risk of infection or other serious complications to an absolute minimum. Before laser eye surgery was available, patients had to endure much greater pain, slower recovery and often had very serious problems afterward. While Lasik can be rather expensive, often in the neighborhood of $2,000 to $2,500 for each eye that is corrected, many of the better vision insurance plans provide at least partial coverage. However, even those who have to pay for the corrective eye surgery out-of-pocket are quick to say it was worth every penny.
